Andy Johnston

Andy JAndy held Executive Secretary and Director of Operations roles within the NAPICU Executive from 2002 until May 2013.  Having stood down after 11 years he remains an Executive member with a number of portfolios.

Andy trained as a nurse in 1987 and has held several senior roles in the NHS and independent sector.

Andy has contributed to a number of national programmes influencing the direction of travel for mental health services over the years.  He is an Editorial Board member of the Journal of Psychiatric Intensive Care and has authored several chapters and publications on MDT working and national standards.  In concurrent roles he has independently reviewed over 40 services in the last 10 years relating to SUI’s, unexpected patient deaths, service design and redesign, benchmarking and practice improvements.  He has been engaged by a number of statutory and non-statutory organisations as an expert / specialist adviser.
