We are excited to offer a comprehensive pre-conference training session this year, bringing together two popular topics into one combined programme:

Sensory Strategies – tailored for all staff working in PICUs, not just OTs
Rapid Tranquillisation – back by popular demand!

 

By combining these topics into a single training event, delegates will have the opportunity to benefit from both sessions without having to choose between concurrent workshops.

Rapid Tranquillisation: Risk Management, Safety, & Best Practice

This focused training session will explore the safe and effective use of rapid tranquillisation (RT) in situations where urgent pharmacological sedation is required. The workshop will support delegates to critically examine both clinical and operational risks, while sharing best practice approaches to ensure patient safety and high-quality care.

The session will be interactive and will encourage participant-led discussion, allowing delegates to reflect on local policies, guidance, and real-world challenges.

What you'll learn...

By attending the Rapid Tranquillisation training, delegates will:

  • Examine the risks associated with pharmacological interventions used during rapid tranquillisation
  • Explore both medication-related and non-medication-related risks linked to RT
  • Understand the importance of post–rapid tranquillisation physical health monitoring
  • Learn how to develop and implement local Post RT Non-Contact Physical Health Monitoring Schedules
  • Identify key principles to ensure rapid tranquillisation is delivered safely and effectively
  • Take part in participant-led discussions around Trust RT policies and guidance
  • Engage in peer review of complex cases (time dependent)

Sensory Strategies Workshop

Understanding Sensory Preferences and Sensory-Based Strategies in Practice

This interactive workshop is designed to build understanding and awareness of sensory preferences, sensory modulation, and practical sensory-based strategies that can be confidently applied in day-to-day practice. The session will combine theory with practical examples to support effective, person-centred interventions across a range of settings.

  • Develop a clear understanding of the sensory systems and individual sensory preferences
  • Gain insight into sensory modulation difficulties and disorders
