Understanding Substance Misuse in Clinical Settings
with Matthew Young (Billy) who is a Dual Diagnosis Lead at Southwark acute inpatient services.
Billy has worked in the substance misuse and mental health field for over 20 years. He is a qualified counsellor with BACP accreditation. With experience in both specialist community drug services and community mental health teams within the NHS since 2006, he has worked as a specialist dual diagnosis practitioner with SLAM since 2016 with 5 years spent with the liaison team at Lewisham hospital and the last two years working with acute inpatients across the Southwark wards and Place of Safety at the Maudsley. Billy has a BSc in Human Biology, Grad Dip in Addiction Studies and a PGDip in Integrative psychotherapy and counselling. His specific areas of interest are overdose prevention, harm minimisation and working with patients involved in Chemsex.
