Chris is the Executive Director of Professional Practice at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and has been a registered nurse for nearly 25 years. Prior to joining the NMC, he served as Interim Chief Inspector of Mental Health at the Care Quality Commission (CQC), where he also held several senior leadership positions, including Executive Director of Operations and Chief Inspector of Healthcare.
With more than 25 years of experience in healthcare delivery, transformation, and commissioning, Chris is an accomplished multi-professional leader who has worked across both national and international programmes. Between 2017 and 2021, he worked as a Global Healthcare Consultant for Health Education England, providing technical expertise and support in India to strengthen mental health services and workforce development.
Alongside his executive responsibilities, Chris serves as Director of Operations for the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (NAPICU), a leading UK mental health charity. He is also a published author and contributed a chapter on psychiatric intensive care to Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing: The Craft of Caring.
Chris is passionate about advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion across healthcare. He is particularly committed to supporting colleagues from ethnically diverse backgrounds and is an active mentor and coach to emerging professionals, helping to develop the next generation of healthcare leaders.
