Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Lead for Inpatient Services – St Charles Hospital, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust

Dr Mehtab Ghazi Rahman is a Consultant Psychiatrist and the Responsible Clinician for the Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS), as well as the Medical Lead for Inpatient Services at St Charles Mental Health Unit, London. He previously served as Consultant Psychiatrist for Nile Ward PICU and as Medical Director of a private hospital in London.

Dr Rahman graduated from St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Medical School, completing his core and higher psychiatric training within the St Mary’s and Charing Cross training schemes in London.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr Rahman has held a number of senior leadership positions, including Trust-wide Physical Health Lead for Mental Health Services, Trust-wide Quality Improvement Lead, and LNC Representative for Kensington & Chelsea. He is an accredited Clinical and Educational Supervisor and serves as a Board Member of the CPDO and QNPICU/CCQI at the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

He is Chair of the QNPICU Accreditation Committee, an Executive Member of the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (NAPICU), and chairs NAPICU’s national scientific symposia. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Psychiatric Intensive Care.

His work in quality improvement, particularly in enhancing physical healthcare in mental health services and reducing violence in PICUs, has been recognised with multiple awards. In 2024, he was named CNWL’s “Trainer of the Year.”

Dr Rahman has contributed extensively to the academic field through quality improvement projects, the development of national guidance, and publications. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Imperial College London, and is the author of a book chapter on managing violence in inpatient mental health settings, published by Cambridge University Press.
