The Skellern Lecturer Award, named in honour of groundbreaking mental health nurse Eileen Skellern, acknowledges individuals who have significantly advanced mental health policy, practice and expertise, both in the UK and internationally.
The National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care (NAPICU) has partnered with the University of Salford, for a ground-breaking research project that aims to shape the urgent and intensive care provision for children and young people experiencing mental health problems in the UK.
This will be one of the only online courses in the UK which has reducing restrictive practice as the focus. We will be providing a summary of the burgeoning evidence about restrictive practice in mental health; the background, political landscape, clinical factors, guidelines and the available evidence about ways to reduce restrictive practice in psychiatry.
This two-afternoon virtual course is designed for staff working in a mental health setting who work with patients who are acutely unwell mentally. It will introduce the management of acute disturbance and discuss the key areas for treating, prescribing, and monitoring of medicines used for acute disturbance.
